Mr Oliver Schindler joined the team at the Droitwich Knee Clinic in 2001. His main interests are sports related injuries to the knee and the prevention of joint degeneration. He is one of only a few surgeons who have embraced the state-of-the-art concept of biologic knee resurfacing which in conjunction with knee re-alignment (Osteotomy) can prevent the need for joint replacement surgery especially in the young and active patient group.

He qualified in Switzerland in 1991 and underwent basic surgical training in Munich and Berne. In 1994 he commenced his orthopaedic specialist training, working in a number of leading orthopaedic centres including the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford, the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London. He moved to Bristol in 1997 where he completed his training and obtained the position of Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon.

In 2001, he spent six months as clinical research fellow in knee surgery in Australia, where he worked closely with Peter Myers, President of the Australian Knee Society. In 2002 he was awarded the Ilizarov Fellowship in Russia and in 2006 he represented the British Orthopaedic Association as their ASG Travelling Fellow in Europe. The American Knee Society has elected him for this years Insall Travelling Fellowship, during which he will be visiting a number of renowned knee specialist units in North America. The Knee Society has also invited him to present his research experience at the Meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons in San Francisco in 2008.

Since 1999 his orthopaedic practice has specialized exclusively in lower limb and knee surgery. He carries out well over 300 operations per annum most of which are either keyhole or minimally invasive procedures. Within his surgical practice he performs on average 100 complex ligament reconstructions, 75 biologic resurfacing procedures, 50 realignment procedures or osteotomies and numerous minimally invasive partial and total knee replacements per year.

He has published extensively in international journals, and has presented his research at conferences in the United States, Russia, New Zealand, Australia and Europe.
